Dr. James Newsome – Non-Executive Chairman
While serving as executive of a Mississippi-based trade group, Dr. Newsome was nominated by President Clinton and confirmed by the Senate to be a Commissioner of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) in 1998. When President Bush was elected in 2000, Jim was nominated and confirmed as Chairman of the CFTC. As Chairman of the CFTC, Jim led a staff of over 500 located in 5 offices overseeing the regulation of the nation’s futures markets. As Chairman, Jim led the CFTC’s regulatory implementation of the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000 (CFMA). Jim was a member of the President’s Working Group for Financial Markets, along with the Secretary of the Treasury and the Chairmen of the Federal Reserve and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
In 2004, Jim left federal service to assume the role of President and Chief Executive Officer of the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX). As head of NYMEX, Jim managed daily operations of the largest physical derivatives exchange in the world. Jim led the transition of the exchange from open outcry to electronic trading. He then took the NYMEX public, leading the company’s initial public offering (IPO).
Finally, Jim merged NYMEX with the CME Group to create the world’s largest futures marketplace.He retired from the NYMEX after the mergerwith CME Group, but continued, until recently, to serve on the CME Group board. Jim currently serves on the boards of Gavilon, TruMarx Data Partners, Getco and the Dubai Mercantile Exchange. In early 2010, Jim partnered to form Delta Strategy Group. Delta Strategy Group provides a variety of services for clients including strategic consulting, political analysis, lobbying, and business development. Existing clients include exchanges, energy companies, trade groups, hedge funds, private equity funds, proprietary trading firms, and others.
Jon B. Olson – Founder, Chief Executive Officer, Board Member
Jon Olson has more than 25 years of experience in the energy markets and commodities market data and software industries. As President and Chief Executive Officer, he most recently led the start-up, funding and strategic positioning of TruMarx Data Partners Inc., a company formed to build and distribute an on-line transactional platform (“COMET”) for the negotiation and execution of non-standard, bilateral energy commodities.
Before that, Jon led the purchase of MarketView Software Inc. and was the company’s CEO for 13 years, initially leading their transition to a Microsoft Windows-based platform from a DOS-based platform and re-naming the company GlobalView Software Inc. This name change reflected the company’s successful expansion across international markets. Jon subsequently led GlobalView through its transition to a web-based platform, MarketView, and an associated aggregated data service, GlobalData, which together garnered multiple awards and broad industry recognition for their ground-breaking business value. In his final year at GlobalView, MarketView’s sales resulted in GlobalView’s largest revenue gain inits history. Jon also negotiated the commercial terms and oversaw the delivery of a transformational ASP system which homogenized all of the transaction confirmations for the 3 largest brokers in the energy market, called ConfirmHub. With his core team, in addition to COMET, MarketView, GlobalData and ConfirmHub, Jon has successfully conceived of, funded and delivered multiple major software and/or data services to energy industry customers, including multinationals, nationals, utilities, banks, brokerages, exchanges and trade associations.
Jon’s previous experience includes investment banking, venture capital (including structuring investments in both financial IT and upstream oil and gas investments) and securities brokerage at Drexel Burnham Lambert, Bacon Whipple and William Blair & Co. Jon attended the joint J.D. /M.M. doctoral program at Northwestern University in Chicago. He earned a B.A in Political Economy from Colorado College, Colorado Springs in 1980.
Mark W. Osmond – Board Member
Mark is as Managing Director at Envestnet, a leading provider of web based wealth management solutions for independent broker dealers and registered investment advisors. Mark joined Envestnet in September of 2009 and Envestnet went public in the summer of 2010. Mark is responsible for overall distribution of Envestnet’s solutions to clients. Mark is a member of the Management Committee. Prior to joining the firm, Mark had a 23-year career with First Boston and its successor, Credit Suisse. As Managing Director at Credit Suisse, Mark held roles in sales, trading, and management of relationships with their largest institutional clients.
Mark received a B.A. in Economics from Colorado College and an M.B.A. from DePaul University with a concentration in Finance. He holds series 7, 24, and 63 securities licenses.
Jonathan D.O.R. Schneider – Board Member
Jonathan is a Director at the London based Gardenia Capital, an independent financial advisory firm which provides investment advice for family offices and private investors. Jonathan has deep experience with a wide range of investment instruments, with a special emphasis on global commodities. Previously, Jonathan was an analyst for Tocqueville in New York, where he performed in depth financial research on a wide variety of global businesses. Prior to that, he was the Middle East-North Africa Manager for Manuchar NV in Antwerp, Belgium, where he developed sales strategies in 19 new markets. Jonathan attended Newcastle-Upon-Tyne University where he earned a degree in business and Spanish. He also holds an MBA from INSEAD.
John H. Sweeney – Board Member
John is a private investor. In addition to sitting on the board of directors of Trumarx Data Partners, John is also an active board member of Denkmann Interests, LLC which is involved in the exploration of natural resources in addition to commercial real estate management. John was also a previous board member for GlobalView Software, Inc. A graduate of the University of Colorado in Denver, John spends considerable time on philanthropic activities in Africa, including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Egypt, Sudan and the Republic of Seychelles, leading various humanitarian projects.
Michael Mackey – Founder, Chief Operating Officer, Board Member
One of the original founders of TruMarx, Mike Mackey was involved in all early stage aspects of the company such as market analysis, strategic direction, capital formation, product design and build, and customer acquisition. Mike’s more recent focus has been on infrastructure design and build-out including redundancy and disaster recovery, product design and evolution, and customer training and support. Previous to Mike’s tenure as TruMarx’ COO, he wasresponsible for GlobalView Software’s (GVSI) worldwide Technical Consulting and Data Services operations, including pre-sales technical support, installations and training, help desk, data acquisition, integration and management, data quality initiatives, and account management. Mike joined GVSI in 1997 with broad technical, business, communication and account management skills in technology and service-oriented companies, and was instrumental in delivering all of the GVSI’s services. Mike held several other senior positions within GVSI including VP Americas, and Eastern Regional Manager.
Prior to his service to GlobalView, he served in a senior technical role for a data communications start-up named Sidereal Corporation. Mike earned a Bachelor’s degree in History and Political Science from Gettysburg College, and is a certified MCSE.
